BELLVILLE: Like the colorful handmade quilts Ruth Adams made – she thought of her family as a big beautiful patchwork – each different – yet stitched together with her love and kindness. Ruth passed into the Lord’s care Friday morning March 8, 2024 from Kingston of Ashland. She was 96.

Born Ruth Elizabeth Meneely on January 22, 1928 in Raymond, Pennsylvania to parents Roy and Essie (Bates) Meneely, she was graduated from Jefferson Union High School. On June 29, 1946 she married Army veteran Avery Gerald “Cutter” Adams.

A member of the Order of the Easter Star, Ruth enjoyed gardening and crafts of every nature – quilting, papier mache, cake decorating, there wasn’t a craft she couldn’t master.

She retired in 1990 as Chief Deputy in the Richland County Treasurer’s Office following 18 years of service.

She leaves a legacy of loving and caring – Ruth never complained – and never said an ill word about anybody.

She is survived by her daughters Barbara (Robert) Wagner of Lexington and Joyce (Ronald) Tilton of Bellville; son John (Patsy Ocheltree) Adams of Bellville; nine grandchildren; 18 great-grandchildren; eight great great grandchildren; as well as numerous nieces, nephews and extended family.

In addition to her parents and her husband of 70 years Avery “Cutter” Adams; she was preceded in death by a son James Adams; daughter-in-law Mona Adams; a granddaughter Tonya Tilton, and sisters Gladys Palm and Patricia Dennis.

The Adams family will receive friends Monday, March 11, 2024 from 4 to 7 p.m. in the Bellville Snyder Funeral Home, where her funeral service will be held Tuesday at 10 a.m. Pastor David Bates will officiate. Burial will follow in Bellville Cemetery.

Contributions in Ruth’s memory to Gentiva Hospice may be made at the funeral home.
