CLEVELAND – This week marked the Rock & Roll Hall of Fame’s 25th anniversary of the museum.
Relive your favorite Rock Hall moments as the museum continues to celebrate its 25th anniversary this month.
Saluting the fans
When the museum opened in 1995, it was a celebration packed with Hall of Fame Inductees and popular artists. Clevelanders and other life-long fans remember the big day as well as the Concert for the Rock Hall held at old Municipal Stadium.
Since then, 13 million visitors have toured the museum. As a thank you to the fans, you’ll see photos submitted by fans from their visits over the years at rockhall.com and across the museum’s social channels. Photos and stories include fans at the museum, opening day, artist sightings and other memories.
The House That Rock Built
On Sept. 16, join a virtual conversation with legendary broadcaster and disc jockey, Norm N. Nite about his new book, ‘The House That Rock Built.’ The book shares stories about the behind-the-scenes battle and how Cleveland landed the Rock Hall.
It draws on both first-person accounts and exclusive interviews and includes a foreword by inductee Stevie Van Zandt. Event details available shortly on rockhall.com/events. Nite’s book is also available in person or online at the Rock Hall’s Store.
New Exhibits
Take a virtual walk through the facility’s largest digital exhibit ever. It’s Been Said All Along: Voices of Rage, Hope & Empowerment is now available at rockhall.com with 360-degree videos and images of the physical exhibit at the Museum. Plus, you’ll find artist narratives from Chuck D. of Public Enemy, Miles Mosley, Fantastic Negrito, and others, including conversations with influential Black photographers whose photos are featured.
The 2020 Inductee Exhibit is also now open in the Hall of Fame Gallery spotlighting this year’s class (Depeche Mode, The Doobie Brothers, Nine Inch Nails, the Notorious B.I.G., Whitney Houston, T.Rex, and Ahmet Ertegun Award winners Irving Azoff and Jon Landau).
On rockhall.com, you’ll also find an immersive photo gallery celebrating 35 years of Induction photography through the lens of entertainment photography veteran Kevin Mazur.
In addition, the Play It Loud: Instruments of Rock & Roll exhibit has been extended. This massive exhibit includes the most iconic instruments of Rock & Roll, co-organized with the Metropolitan Museum of Art, through December 2020.
Anniversary Concert Footage
The musuem is opening its vault and sharing Rock Hall anniversary concert footage on rockhall.com and its YouTube channel this month.
Concert footage includes rock & roll royalty and all-star performances from Bruce Springsteen and Billy Joel on-stage for ‘Born to Run,’ U2 with Mick Jagger and Fergie performing ‘Gimme Shelter,’ Crosby, Stills and Nash singing ‘Woodstock,’ and Stevie Wonder’s rendition of ‘Signed, Sealed, Delivered, I’m Yours.”
Extended Live & Local Series
Amplify your museum experience and join in for free live music on the plaza in September on Thursdays and Saturdays from 5 to 7 p.m. With plenty of room to social distance, the Live & Local concert series showcases homegrown talent.
September’s lineup features Chris Hatton, a one-man-band loop pedal artist, Vanity Crash, creating punk spunk and glam clamor, The Morning Bird, blending folk, Rock & Roll and country, Apostle Jones, an Indie-Soul experience, and more. Free ticket required at rockhall.com.
The extended lineup also includes Yoga on the plaza with Inner Bliss Yoga Studios on Sept. 8 at 6 p.m., followed by a post-practice happy hour.
