USMC GySgt (retired) Edward “Ed” R. Skidgell, 77, of Mansfield, Ohio, passed away
peacefully on June 20, 2024. Born on June 1, 1947, in Presque Isle, Maine, he enjoyed life and lived it to the fullest.

Ed was proud to have served in the United States Marine Corps for 20 years, with three tours in Vietnam. He loved scuba diving as a hobby and professionally. He especially enjoyed working as an instructor, introducing people to another world. His love of travel led him to truck driving, where he enjoyed seeing the country.

Ed is survived by his daughter, Dena M. Skidgell (Greg J. Scheurer); his granddaughter, Baylie A. Scheurer (Alex J. Knipe); a brother, Fred D. Skidgell (Corrine Kazda); extended family members, and cherished friends.

He is preceded in death by his parents, Ralph H. Skidgell and Florence F. (Fournier) Skidgell.

Ed’s legacy of love, laughter, and integrity will forever be in the hearts of those who knew him. A memorial will be held at a later date. In lieu of flowers, donations to the Marine Corps Heritage Foundation or the National Museum of the Marine Corps are welcomed.
