MADISON TOWNSHIP — A Kentucky Avenue woman suffered burns to her legs and feet during a house fire early Thursday morning, according to the Madison Township Fire Department.

Firefighters responded at 3:37 a.m. to a reported house fire at 506 Kentucky Ave.

“The first arriving apparatus, Ladder 71, found heavy fire on the (back of the house). An aggressive attack was made,” according to a fire department social media post.

“The homeowner was home at the time of the fire. She was sleeping in the room of origin, but was out when crews first arrived. She was burned on her legs and feet and was transported to OhioHealth Mansfield (Hospital) by Springfield Fire,” firefighters said.

Madison Township received mutual aid from the City of Mansfield, Mifflin Township (Richland County) and Springfield Township (Ontario).

Firefighters said 1-800-Board Up was called to the scene to assist with victim services and property stabilization and securement.

We used approximately 5700 gallons of water to completely extinguish and overhaul the fire. The cause of the fire remains under investigation but an accidental cause is suspected.
